Description

This course is a study of compositional practices in the art music of the twentieth century to the present. Consideration will be given to techniques used by composers of the post common practice era to include impressionism, non-serial atonality, serialism, aleatoric music, minimalism and beyond. Aesthetic features related to rhythm, texture, and the introduction of electronic music will also be discussed.
